Prosthodontics is the area of dentistry that deals with the design, fabrication and fitting of dental prostheses. Dental prostheses include full and partial dentures, bridges and crowns, implant abutments, devices/appliances for orthodontic purposes and pre/post oral and maxillofacial surgical devices, among others.
PORCELAIN CROWN
Porcelain Crowns are generally used when damage or decay is so vast that filling materials cannot make the tooth strong enough. Porcelain crowns can also be used to hold a bridge in place and to cover discoloured or deformed teeth. The placement of a porcelain crown might be for a variety of reasons but, in general, most of these reasons will fall within one of the following basic categories:
- To restore a tooth to its original shape.
- To strengthen a tooth (especially if you have had Root Canal Treatment).
ZIRCON CROWN
Zircon Crowns result in a highly aesthetic and translucent finish, comparable to a natural tooth. It is a natural material, has a low thermal conductivity and 100% “biocompatible”. Making it suitable for patients susceptible to alloy allergy and sensitivity to temperature variation.
EMAX CROWN
Emax Crown offers excellent fit, biocompatible and exceptional aesthetic restorations. They are characterised for their high strength, high translucency and versatility.
VENEERS / LUMINEERS
The veneer is a thin layer which is permanently bonded to the outer surface of the teeth. They can dramatically enhance crooked, crowded, chipped and gappy smiles. We evaluate each tooth individually and place the repair most appropriate to your needs.
Lumineers are dental veneers that are used to improve the appearance of teeth that have cracks, chips, discolourations, and other issues, resulting in much improved and natural-looking smiles.
INLAY / ONLAY
Inlays and Onlays are used to restore broken down teeth. Inlays are fillings that were traditionally made of gold but are now often made of porcelain, ceramic or composite material. They are used to repair moderately damaged back teeth and need to be extremely strong to withstand the grinding pressure of these teeth. Made of the same materials as inlays, an Onlay is a more extensive restoration that covers the tooth cusps. An Onlay increases the strength of the tooth.
PARTIAL / COMPLETE DENTURES
Dentures are artificial teeth that look just like the real thing, made out of durable acrylic or metal. These are can be removed, great for restoring missing teeth and also to help maintain normal speech or chewing capacity.
Partial Dentures are used to fill any gaps left by missing teeth, this can be single or multiple. Partial dentures are held in place by thin, sturdy metal clasps.
Complete Denture is a fantastic solution to replace missing natural teeth. Made for upper, lower or both sets of teeth bringing you full movement.
Dental bridges & crowns
A dental crown is one of the most well-known dental restorations. They are used, to sum up, those teeth that are beyond repair. This type of treatment is a good choice for patients who have sustained severe damage to the tooth. Not only does it restore the structure and strength of your tooth, but also enhances your facial and smile aesthetics.
At Platinum Medical center, our dentists will advise placing dental crowns if you have the following conditions:
- If you have yellow or stained teeth.
- If you have a loose, cracked, or damaged tooth.
- If you grind your teeth, unable to chew food comfortably or if your bite is not aligned properly.
- If you have undergone a root canal. If you have a large dental filling, you may need a dental crown to preserve your main tooth.
- If you lost your teeth to periodontal disease or a traumatic injury. Crown with dental implants is an ideal solution.
While there are other possibilities for tooth replacement (dental implants and dentures), bridges are often a popular choice as they offer a lasting solution without an invasive method. For some, bridges are the only option due to a lack of bone strength that would be required for an implant.
